Paris Metro Passes

Hey, so first time travelers to Paris - and we read through a previous topic but just wanted to get some more information/confirm a few things. For background, we're arriving in Paris at CDG on December 25th (yup Christmas in Paris!) and flying out New Years Day. We have a really nice hotel near the Eiffel Tower and we're looking to do all the typical tourist stuff (the l'ouvre, notre dame, latin quarter, maybe Versailles, etc.).

My question is what type of metro passes should we get? The other forum to get the ND pass from the CDG because it's cheaper. Any suggestions or best price for unlimited travel around Paris?

Cheers!

The problem with the Navigo Decouverte is that it only goes Monday morning to Sunday night. It might be worth getting to cover everything from Monday on, including the ride to the airport on Jan 1, but it won't help you when you arrive and the weekend. You might find that just buying individual 10 euro t ticket for the ride into Paris and then getting a 10 ride carnet for 14.10 euro for the rest of the weekend will work.

You will need to pay an initial set-up fee of 5 euro, and bring a 1" by 1 1/4" in passport type photo with you if you go with the ND. Then it is 21.25 euro for the week, all zones.

One of my favorite places in the world. Still.....................

Pickpockets are very active on the rail link (RER B) from Charles de
Gaulle Airport to the city center. Travelers may want to consider
using a shuttle service or one of the express buses to central Paris
rather than the RER. In addition, passengers are often targeted on
Metro Line 1, which traverses the city center from east to west and
services many major tourist sites.

Hi! Thanks for all the help. Here are some additional details.

We're a party of just 2. Both late twenties. The hotel is right by the Eiffel tower so we'll have to go from CDG to there either by shuttle, rail, or taxi. Thank you!

diana,

As this is your first time in Paris, you may find it helpful to pack along a copy of the Pocket Paris or Paris guidebooks, as they have an enormous amount of information on the sights, which days museums are open/closed, admission costs, times, transportation, restaurants, etc. The books are "on sale" at the moment and for a small investment of $10-15 you'll definitely get your money's worth.

Hi Diana. Simplest for travel within Paris is to just buy a book (carnet) of 10 metro tickets. You can share them, then if you use them up, just buy another book. No need to hassle with a pass. If weather is nice, you may find yourself walking a lot and only using the metro for longer runs. From airport, the RER train is fine, don't be freaked by talk of pick pockets. RER ticket includes free transfer to metro to get to the stop by your hotel. Or the shuttle busses are fine too. Enjoy your trip!
