Paris is the destination, via London??

So last year my husband and I travelled to London via Virgin Atlantic's Premium Economy and we were delighted.

This summer we're going to Paris for 10 days and it seems that the only Delta option other than my 1k economy fare is the $5k 1st class--which isn't an option. VA doesn't fly there from Atlanta so how about this?
We fly to/from London and take the Chunnel to Paris.

Does anyone see anything wrong with this idea?

Are you spending any time in London? If so, it's a good plan. If not, I would just connect to another flight to Paris since you are already at airport.

We are flying to Paris through London Heathrow next week and will return home by taking the Eurostar to London, after spending some time there.

Is Delta offering their "economy comfort" class on those routes? I was able to get them for a trip to China for $139 extra each way on top of the coach fare. They didn't offer it to us until partway through the purchasing process, I believe.

Not planning on spending any time in London. I didn't think about connecting to another flight.
Always wanted to take the Eurostar though. :)

No Delta is not offering their Economy Comfort that I can see. Interesting thought that they could offer it partway through the order. I wish I could see what that price will be so I can compare it to other options.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Are you checking for the fare on the Delta website or somewhere else?
Edit. I just looked at random dates in July and two out of the four nonstop flights from Atlanta to Paris had Premium Economy fares available. I had to slide over to the next column to see the Premium Economy fares (this was on the mobile Delta site).

Comfort+ is available on all the transatlantic Delta fights. You buy the comfort+ seat by first choosing a main cabin fare and then selecting a comfort+ seat in the seat selection process. Each seat is $99 each way. They are extra legroom seats with a little more recline, so it's not a wider seat like on Virgin.

There are also non-stop options from Atlanta to Paris on AirFrance. Those flights have a fancy premium economy cabin that you might want to consider: https://www.airfrance.us/US/en/common/guideeconomy/classeetconfort/premium_economy_a_bord.htm

Yes, it looks like there's a big difference between Comfort+ and Premium Economy.

Yes, on Delta just choose your flights on the Economy mode then when you choose your seats during the process choose a Premium Economy or whatever they are calling it and it will add the cost in. I just bought up for $99 from MSP to Paris and $109 from LHR back to SLC. I found the website to be more confusing than it used to be.

I don't ever want the Premium seats except on the International leg and the little puddlehoppers out of my local airport don't have different classes of seats.

If you do decide to fly in/out of London and take the Eurostar back and forth, then I would overnight in London the first night and the night before your plane departs for home.

Delta's Economy Plus is not comparable.

I do this all the time. I will be doing it next month. I just allow 4 hours or so between flights. This trip I am flying to Paris the day I land and taking the train to London the afternoon before my flight home.

A couple of considerations.

  1. Be ready to just buy a full fare train fare if your VA flight is late Since the cost of a one way ticket home is STEEP I always give myself more like 24 hours in London here!

  2. I find it's cheaper to buy a round trop flight so I just look for a return way in the future that's cheap and throw half the ticket away. Yes, technically it's against the rules but for once a year I doubt Air France is going to chase me down and fine me.

Just as a matter of information, Delta is part owner of Virgin Atlantic. Expect to see further co-ordination in the future.

Thanks for the info everyone. Stupid question here but I'm new to Delta airmiles. Will I get Delta AM credit if I fly AirFrance?

You can specify Delta points when you make your reservation. I'd also ask the airport check-in agent. If the miles don't occur in the account you can make an on-line claim with Delta. You will have to provide all the boarding passes, so keep them They may also want the printed receipt for the sale, not just the reservations. I am only guessing, but Delta is moving to a system that awards points based on ticket cost rather than miles flown.
