Paris in May with 13 Yr. Granddaughter

Thanks everyone for your help with choosing a hotel. Airfare and hotel done. Has anyone purchased the Paris Visite and did you find it worthwhile or how about a museum pass and a daily or weekly metro pass. What is the best way to get to the hotel from CDG airport. Hotel is near Eiffel Tower.

"Near the Eiffel Tower" isn't very specific. Your hotel's Web site probably tells which Metro and/or RER station is closest. If it's the RER C Champ de Mars-Tour Eiffel station, then take the RER B from CDG to St-Michel Notre-Dame, transfer to the RER C, and take it to Champ de Mars-Tour Eiffel. The fare is €8.40. For detailed information about finding the two RER stations at CDG (including photos), go to www.parisbytrain.com. You'll find links for Metro and RER maps.

The Paris Visite pass is overpriced so it's usually not your best choice. What pass, if any, depends both upon how many days you'll be in Paris and what days of the week you will arrive and depart. For a page listing all your ticket and pass choices, with links to detailed explanations of each one, go here. Take special note of the Carte Orange you can load on a passe Navigo Decouverte card and the Ticket Jeunes which your granddaughter could use on Saturdays and Sundays.

Remember your granddaughter is free at most museums.
I have never purchased a Museum Pass but many people like them.

The metro pass depends how much you plan to run around. The weekly pass (Carte Orange) runs from Mon-Sun so that may or may not be a good option. Unless you are planning very full days, going from sight to sight, it is probably better to just buy the carnets (packets of 10 metro tickets at a reduced rate).

I love the museum pass, but then I love to visit museums. I don't know if I save considerably with it, but I don't spend 10-15 minutes at every place deciding whether it is worthwhile to pay the entrance fee. Also, if I get too tired I don't feel obligated to see the rest of the museum "to get my money's worth." I just tell myself I'll come back tomorrow.

In any case, download the museum pass brochure. It is a fairly comprehensive list of the best museums (even if a couple of my faves aren't in it) and gives the hours and days of operation as well as the websites.
