After reading many stories about CDG airport and how long it could take to get through security, how long prior to my flight should I show up, for a AirBerlin flight to Vienna, given that I will be arriving by RER train.
AirBerlin's check-in deadline at CDG is 30 minutes prior to departure. I've read posts on other boards from people who live in Paris who say that for flights from CDG to another EU country, arriving at the airport one hour before departure is early enough. As for me, I'd recommend you give yourself at least 90 minutes.
There are too many possible delays when traveling to an air terminal for me to allow 30 minutes. I would allow an hour at the least. I prefer resting at the gate to running to catch a plane.
We just came home through CDG last month. We got on the RER at St. Michel just after 9:00 a.m. for our 12:30 flight. We only had to wait at the gate for 15 - 20 minutes before boarding. That was cutting it a little close for me! I found that what took so long for us was getting from the train to the terminal and then getting through the line to check in. Security wasn't bad. Just don't try to take anything through that you shouldn't have. We were delayed about 10 minutes because my husband accidently left a couple of letter openers in his bag. Oops!
