With trains running 2:30 each way (or longer, transfer in Brussels), this is logistically possible.

Trains would be the best way to go because you could leave early and return late without worrying about driving tired.

Personally I would not enjoy a day trip like that, but if it is your style you should consider it. Or weigh it against other trips a bit closer to Paris (Rouen, Reims, Chartres etc.)

If I remember correctly, it's about 90 min from Gare de Norde to Brussels Midi by Thallys, and then an hour to Bruges on the local. Go early, return late. Some people like to give Bruges a couple of days, I was very happy with a day trip. Some mussels, some beer, a little chocolate, a little more chocolate: worked for me....

Too far to go in one day to see so much that there is to see in Bruges - spent 6 days / 5 nights there in Aug. 2007 and would have liked to stay longer.
If I really wanted to take a trip in that direction, I would probably go to Brussels where I spent 2 days which were enough for me.

For the same travel time (2 1/2 hours), take the TGV from Paris to Lille and regional trains from there to Bruges. Cheaper than going via Brussels using Thalys trains, particularly if you book the Paris-Lille TGV well in advance at www.voyages-sncf.com and are able to get a PREM'S (discount) fare. It's half the price of a standard 2nd class ticket.
