If I'm going from Paris to Ax-les-Thermes, do I wait to buy a ticket in FR, or is it cheaper to buy via Rail Europe. The SCNF site only shows night train options. I want a day train, which I know runs. How to do this?
In the SNCF journey planner, uncheck the box marked 'Direct journey only' and you should then be able to see a number of daytime trains. Here's a screenshot of what I saw when I did that: http://imgur.com/gzHCPq1
Thanks for your help. I seem to have a different screen in the usa, and get routed back to rail europe. So just purchased through them, although now must wait 1-2 days to see if they actually have a ticket for me.
Christy, it would be really useful to know how much Rail Europe charged you, for what date and what departure time. The standard advice given on this website is not to use them because they don't always show all available trains and they are often more expensive than using the train operating company itself. It would be good to see the difference in price (if any) in your case.
Actually Kevin, I just did that. And I guess I was totally asleep when I tried this last time. Just now I was able to find a ticket on SCNF for $50 less than Rail Europe. I just didn't see the direct train box earlier. However, the routes and times offered are exactly the same on both sites. Now I'm wondering if I can cancel Rail Europe if they don't give me the times I booked. They also state they'll match any price one finds that's lower than they charge. We'll see. Thanks for your help.
