I am traveling with 2 friends from barcelona to paris on dec 23. We want to take the night train and the one that is offered is the Elipsos 475. It says reservations are compulsory. We all have eurail passes for 3 countries and the eurail site where we bought them says it will be about 47 euros. It does not give any information how to book this before we leave the US!! how far in advance should you reserve. its a busy holiday time so i don't want to risk not having a seat by waiting until we are in spain. This is our first time abroad and I need HELP!!

rail europe.com won't let me make a reservation with them b/c i did not purchase a pass with them and euraide.com site is not working

You can buy seat reservations on the Rail Europe site no matter where you bought your passes. I just did a dummy passholder seat reservation purchase for the December 23 Elipsos 475 and I would have been able to complete the purchase had I chosen to do so.
