Overnight train reservation fees w/RP

How much is a reservation fee for an overnight train from Prague to Krakow? Also, how much for Krakow to Budapest? I will have a Global railpass. Can I just get the reservation once I get to Europe or should I book it online before I go? What is the best website for that? Seems like the DB site and RailEurope site do not want to let me do it.

Three years ago Poland did not recognize Global Passes. We went on that route and had to buy rail tickets at Katowice. I don't remember how much it was but not very much so we bought a first class ticket.

DB will only sell tickets, and give prices, for trips in, to or from Germany. It does give times for most of Europe and is very user-friendly. For prices of trains in Poland, use the Polish Railways website (Polskie Koleje Państwowe, or PKP for short): http://nowy.rozklad-pkp.pl/

DB shows night trains:

  • Depart Praha hl.n. 22:01, arrive Krakow Glowny 06:56
  • Depart Krakow Glowny 22:01, arrive Budapest-Keleti 08:35

In the past when I used a rail pass, I had to make seat reservations and overnight train reservations direct with the rail agencies. But that has been a number of years now, so you might be able to do it online. In any event, you likely must do it through the local rail agency.

Night trains do fill up so the sooner you can book, the better. Especially if you want a bed.

See the two Euraide price-list links that I posted yesterday. Either Euraide (contact them by email/fax/phone) or Rail Europe are the two agencies that sell those reservations before you go, but you may have to do it by phone in either case, not online. You can buy reservations at a train station in Europe; a few days in advance usually works, but is not guaranteed.

Not so. They will sell tickets on City Nightline trains regardless if ones destination is to/from Germany.
