Overnight Train - Lisbon <-> Madrid - Experience and comments?

Greetings and Happy New Year.

I would like to get any/all feedback on your experience using the overnight train from Lisbon to Madrid (or reverse). If any of you all have done this within the past 3 years, i would like to hear about it.

Im pondering taking the train but with my first time doing an overnight was the Budapest > Krakow im once burned, twice shy now.

thanks alot and happy trails.

It is a bad train, woefully snow. Nothing like the modern high-speed trains that zoom around Spain.

Avoid it and take a flight.

If you didn't like the first night train experience, then don't do this one. I would not expect it to be especially different in the level of comfort or service. There is no border control check.

I took it about 5 years ago (both ways). It was fine/average as far as overnight train experiences go (I've taken A LOT). I had a shared couchette and the people were nice but not overly friendly. It was clean and relatively quiet. In general, you should note expect to get much rest.

I would strongly consider flying.
