Overnight train from Venice to Paris with flight connection

We are traveling in France and Italy in July. We are considering an overnight train from Venice to Paris which arrives in Paris at 9:30 a.m. at Gare de Lyon. We have a 12:20 flight at Charles De Galle at 12:20. Is this enough time? It seems we could get to the airport by 10:30 but just concerned we are too tight on time.

I would not attempt it. It's a recipe for stress. As previous posters already pointed out, the night train is not reliably on time and CDG is a very confusing airport to navigate. I'd absolutely want to be there 3 hrs before the flight.

Sally, Lets see - the best public transport option is probably the Air France bus that stops right at Gare de Lyon. It takes roughly 45 minutes to 1 hour, but should be much cheaper than by cab. By cab from Gare de Lyon (not during rush hour) you can do it in about 30 minutes - so there is your stop-gap. If you use the RER from Gare de Lyon, take line A and change at St Michel for line B to the airport. You'll need to allow at least 1 hour to 1 and a quarter hour. Two things you are counting on: the train being on time, and a lack of traffic. Can it be done? Absolutely. Its all in the amount of 'excitement' you can tolerate. :)

No, it's not enough time! Assuming you are flying home from CDG, you should be at the airport a full three hours before your flight's scheduled departure time. To have as much time in Venice as possible on your last day, take an evening easyJet flight from Venice to Paris. You have two options: 1. Fly VCE-CDG (Monday-Wednesday-Friday-Sunday), departing at 21:15 and arriving at 23:05. Spend the night at an airport hotel. 2. Fly VCE-Orly (daily flights), departing at 20:45 and arriving at 22:25. Spend the night in Paris and take the RER B to CDG in the morning. Allow a minimum of one hour to get from central Paris to the airport. Be aware that the RER B line divides northeast of Paris. Be sure to get on a train that is going to CDG.

I should add - an assumption I made when looking at this was being at the airport two hours ahead of time vice three as Tim suggests.

Why do you need to allow for 3 hours when traveling out of CDG? Most airports it is 2 hours.

Its three at CDG and no way would I do this. CDG is a large confusing( for many ) airport, security lines can take a long long time. I have flown in and out many many times, and my absolute cut off is 2.5 hours ,, and i get to fly out of a smaller terminal then you do I bet,, since I take a Canadian airline that uses a less busy terminal. Sally, remember, any detail that even disrupts your schedule by 1/2 hour could make you miss your flight,, add a ton of stress, and also, if you miss your flight you will have to pay a huge walk up one way fare. I would come in the night before.

Night trains are notoriously prone to delays, sometimes huge delays, because they circulate at the time railways do often unscheduled maintenance work and also have to deal with unscheduled freight night traffic. I'd never trust a night train arrival to plan an interncontinental flight the following morning. No way. An 3h is a too short window even for a reliable day-time high-speed only train,

Venice to Paris is about the same distance as Portland to San Francisco, pretty long to take the train then get have to get on a plane. I have to also vote for a low-fare air carrier between the two cities.
