Overnight train from Munich to Nice

I've been looking for a reasonable inter-europe flight from Munich to Nice but have not found one, so wonder if anyone has taken a night train instead.

Kitty, Vueling offers reasonably priced indirect flights on that route, however they don't operate every day. In addition, that usually includes an overnight layover in Barcelona, which is a bit of a waste of time. You could probably get a direct flight with Lufthansa, but it won't be cheap! Travel by rail from Munich to Nice is going to be a LONG trip, between 13-17 hours. In the same situation, I'd highly recommend stopping at an intermediate city along the way for a night or so, to make the trip more manageable. That's a method I use often to break up longer journeys. One possibility would be to travel from Munich to Verona (5H:27M direct) and then from Verona to Nice (6H:33M, 2 changes at Milano Centrale and Ventimiglia). If you'd like to go further the first day, stop at Milan instead of Verona, and then proceed to Nice. Good luck with your planning!

You could fly early in the morning from Munich to Milan Malpensa on Air Berlin (one connection in Dusseldorf), departing at 06:20 and arriving at 10:05. Take the train from Milan to Nice (connections at Genoa and Ventimiglia), departing at 13:10 and arriving at 18:35.

Isn't there an Air Berlin flight into Nice? I have a family member who flies Vienna-Nice a couple of times a year on Air Berlin.

You can fly Munich-Nice (with a connection in Vienna) on Air Berlin, but only on Mondays and Thursdays.

Hi, Aside from the suggestions to fly, you could do the trip by train, which including waiting time will take all day. I would suggest going this way: No need for a night train...Munich to Strasbourg direct (very early dep from Munich Hbf.), change in Strasbourg to Lyon direct. Here you have long layover, ca. 5 hrs. Then Lyon to Nice direct on the TGV. Taking this route you only need to transfer twice.
