Has anyone taken the overnight train and ferry from London to Amsterdam? Would you recommend it? It looks like a good deal. Any tips on traveling between these cities?
Thanks,
-Carlos

It's my favourite way to get to the 'Dam from London if time is not an issue.
Take the train from Liverpool Street station to Harwich. The train stops at the docks. Board the ferry and either check into a cabin ( if you're rich ) or stash your luggage and hit the bar and loungers ( if you're poor - like me ). The night voyage to Hoek Van Holland is one long party in the bar, or you can take it easy and grab some sleep ( in my student days, I partied hard, nowadays it's a good meal, a drink and forty winks ). In the morning get off the ship and take the train from HvH to Amsterdam ( the station at HvH is at the docks ).
It's great way to meet people and travel.
Al, we're doing the Stena overnite in a few weeks with a cabin (far from rich, retired, you see) and 'booked' the breakfast only. With the midnight+/- departure from Harwich, do they do an 'evening' meal that late; and is it worth it? We'll be killing a few hours in London enroute to Harwich from Bath and were going to eat near Liverpool Stn on the way through. However, a late night 'ferry' meal sounds interesting if the one I had last year on the P&O to Zeebrugge from Kingston-U-Hull is any indication.

Thanks for the help, everyone.
Do I need to book tickets for this in advance? Does the line from London to Amsterdam sell out often?
Thanks again
