Overnight Krakow-Budapest train--how far in advance should I buy

I'm thinking of taking the overnight train #402/407/477 from Krakow to Budapest this April, around April 16. I will arrive in Krakow late the evening before I'd leave for Budapest and I'd be in Krakow the day I'd be leaving for Budapest at 9:15 that night, but not before. I will have a Eurail global pass which will work in Hungary but not Poland. So I guess I'd need a "regular ticket" also, for the part of the trip in Poland. Is the day I want to leave Krakow too late to wait to buy either a couchette or preferably a sleeper? If I do decide to buy sooner, since I won't be in Poland till the day I'm planning to leave for Budapest, where could I do that? I'll be in Slovakia the day before Krakow and Prague the day before that. Can I do it online? I know I should have checked first before asking... Thx.

I don't think you would have a problem. I took the that same route in May a couple of years ago and reserved my seat a day before. There were still lots of empty beds.
