My husband and I are traveling to Denmark from Texas next month- with our toddler. We prefer to do long distance flights overnight, so our son can sleep; however, we have not been able to find any flights that will accomodate this. Does anyone know if there are even overnight flights from that part of Europ back to the US?
The only overnights flights I'm aware of are from Heathrow London, to Newark and JFK New York. I believe Continental, British Airways, and Virgin Atlantic all have such flights. SAS and Continental are partners....Continental also has hubs in Newark, and Houston, so that may be worth checking out.
If you route through Atlanta (Delta/AF), those flights usually leave around five pm and arrive London/Paris/Munich/etc at six am or so. Edit: Note to self, read the whole question.
Kim is looking for flights in the other direction:)
Obviously, there aren't many of these flights because of the time difference. When you travel westward, you land only a couple of hours later than your departure time (in local time) so if you depart in the evening, you would arrive in the middle of the night. That's why westbound flights usually depart in the morning or early afternoon.
I believe the latest flights from London to New York leave at around 8 or 8.30 pm and arrive at around 11 pm. I don't know if this qualifies as an overnight flight, but it would certainly give the OP problems in getting to his final destination without a night in a New York hotel.
Depending on the length of your stay, your toddler may still be off in his sleep pattern due to the jetlag from the US-Europe flight. We've flown quite a few times with young children both ways. He'll sleep when he gets tired, let him run around the airport for a while before you get on the plane.
