We are working on a deal to use our Delta FF points. To my surprise Delta partners with Continental. They will send us from Newark(we are in Atlanta) to Barcelona and we looked at the plane and it is a 757--200. The smallest plane we have ever flown over on was the 767. And the triple seven is always our preference. Has anyone flown this plane across the pond?
It's got a 3-3 seating concept and is just like the 757s they fly domestically. It's a narrow-body aircraft (767 already qualifies as wide-body). It's gonna be pretty crammed, cramped, tight. My longest flight on a 757 was from San Diego to Newark on CO. It was like 4 1/2 hours or so and... it was more than enough time on that narrow seat.
Greetings
I think Continental uses 757s on the Edinrbugh-Newark route. It's one aisle with three seats on either side. Definitely not cushy - no individual screens etc. However, at least for the EDI-EWR route, I don't mind at all because it's MUCH less hassle than connecting via Heathrow (eek!) or another airport and the flights are no more than 7.5 hours (to US) or 6 hours (to UK).
I don't know how long the EWR-BAR trip is, but if you don't mind entertaining yourself with books, IPod, naps etc., it's not a bad deal. I find Continental to have some of the best in-flight service and when it comes to it, I don't think any of the planes really have more space in cattle class.
If you can check in as soon as it opens online, the best seats to get are around row 14-16 in coach where the emergency exits are. The second emergency exit row has lots of leg space and you can recline. First exit row can't recline, but still has lots of leg room.

I've found the 757 to be a little cramped on long overseas flights. It's only got one single aisle, and sits 3 and 3. Check http://tinyurl.com/oanra for the SeatGuru seating diagram of the aircraft.
Thanks for the replies. The flight from Newark to Barcelona is slightly over 8 hours. This will be for April 15 and there are not many seats left. The good news is we get a triple seven on the return flying out of Paris. Last trip we got a 767 that had a new interior and all new seats that looked leather but probably were vinyl (Delta) and the seats were the most cramped we've ever experienced. If you dropped something under the seat (which I did) it was virtually impossible to retrieve it. Also on the last trip I asked a FA why so few flights with the triple seven and her answer was they mainly use them for Asia, Australia, etc. Delta is notorious for have a very limited number of those big planes.
Worst plane for international travel. Experienced flyers hate it.
757 is not ideal, for sure. But is being in coach in a 747 really all that much more pleasant than anything else? Being on any plane in coach for 6-9 hours is not a fantastic experience. It really all comes down to price.
One thing I have found is that the smaller the plane the more accessible the flight crew seems to be. Perhaps that's just my perception and not reality. Anyone else have thoughts on this?
Since you said you're using points, another option would be to buy a ticket on the flight and use the points to upgrade to business class/first class depending on how many classes the plane has. Business/First is more comfortable. (A 757 in business isn't as comfortable as a 767, but it's better than coach.)
If you're a big person, like me, every tenth counts! Continental's 757 seats are 17.2 inches wide, compared to the 767's 17.9 inches, and seat pitch on the 757 is 31 inches, compared to 32 on the 767.(watch row 34 on their 757...they're only 16.2 inches wide!). But the worst of it for me is the single aisle....far less chance of getting up and stretching or walking on such a long flight. How come they won't put you on their non-stop flight from Atlanta? They also have a run thru Kennedy that uses the 767. If you're concerned, and if they insist on using Continental thru Newark, an option might be to fly to Madrid then take an inexpensive Vueling flight to Barcelona. Continental's 8:45 flight from Newark to Madrid uses a 767....it's a much more comfortable trip.
