I know that people over the age of 60 can get a discount card for French trains. So you have to a French citizen or can anyone get one of these. If you can, how do you get one?
The info is all here, unfortunately only in French. Although you don't need to know French to see that the senior card costs 56 euros. http://www.senior-sncf.com/accueil/ I notice that the drop-down list of countries on the online order form does not include the good old USA. You might have to wait til you get to France to buy one.
If you can commit well in advance (up to three months allowed) to specific departure dates and times, you can get discount fares on TGVs and other fast trains that will be a much better deal than the senior discount plus the cost of buying a senior card.
Jon, The discount fares to which I referred are for all ages. To get the best fare, book ASAP (up to three months in advance) at www.tgv-europe.com. To keep the site in English and to avoid being bumped to the Rail Europe site, choose Great Britain as your country of residence. You can print Prem's fare tickets yourself. For any other fare you can pick up the ticket at any SNCF station or boutique in France.

Being "long in the tooth" myself; how does one go about obtaining the discount you reference?
