In Budapest and Prague over 65 is free. In Warsaw and Krakow, over 70 is free. Would be helpful to note in the next edition of Central Europe. Also, how to get through the turnstiles when one is allowed free transportation.
In Poland, trains for seniors, which they defined as 60+, are 30% off. Thank you, Mr. E for the correction. Trains in Poland are so inexpensive and with the discount, downright cheap.
Within Hungary, the trains are free to over 65. Quite a deal.
There are no turnstiles in Budapest. You present a picture ID with a birth date if and when asked. A US drivers license will work.
jules m, I read 60 and then not on every type of train?
Mr. E, I believe you are right. We must have been just barely 60 when we went to Poland. Every train we used had a senior discount. We ended up using 1st class a bit because of COVID concerns, and prices were crazy inexpensive.
