I recall someone on this board mentioning a town close to the Frankfurt Airport where you can pick up a rental car and avoid the higher airport fees. Any suggestions for a small town that has easy access from the airport and to the autobahn? Thanks

I don't look for such places as the train is less expensive and more convenient than renting a car, but I believe I have heard the name of Kelsterbach mentioned. Added: The S-Bahn (S8 and S9), which go through the regional Bahnhof at Terminal 1, go to Kelsterbach. Use platform 3, direction Mainz/Wiesbaden. It's a three minute trip for €2,40. There is an S-Bahn every 15 minutes.

Hi Denise, I think you may be thinking of Kelsterbach. It's about a 5 minute taxi drive from the airport... about 10 euros. I have picked up cars there and also several locations in Frankfurt. While not a small town but easy to get to the autobahn.. there are several locations in Frankfurt within walking...well my walking distance anyway..from the train stations..both main and south stations. I have also taken a taxi from the airport to a couple of the rental places in Frankfurt at the cost of about 30 euros. Saves an average of 70 euros by not picking the car up at the airport. For 90% of my travels a car is more convenient.

Yes Kelsterbach is one but if it is off hrs. Just train it to city of Frankfurt, we saved alot by picking up our vehicle there and an easy assess to motorways. we rented thru www.gemut.com, great rate/service on that trip.
