Oslo to Flam, Gudvangen, Voss & back in one day?

I have only 2 days outside of a meeting in Oslo and want to see something of the fjords. I have been looking at the "Norway in a Nutshell" itinerary, but I want to do it on my own since I can get the 50% discount for Seniors for some parts of the trip. If I take the 6:31 AM train out of Oslo to Myrdal and make it back to Voss in time for the 5:10 pm return train it looks like I would get back to Oslo about 10:36 PM. It is the same schedule the Tour follows but I'll have to make all connections on my own. Does this sound reasonable? I do not have much information about how far I might have to walk to get from train to boat dock to bus station to train, etc. I will be there the week of Sept. 9-15.

When you do it as a "tour," you are merely buying the tickets as a package. You still have to make the connections on your own. But don't worry. Almost everyone on the trains, buses, and boats is making the same connections, and they're timed for this. I did it in 2003 so my memory is a bit fuzzy, but I don't remember much walking between connections (and what there was was mostly downhill). But, I didn't have any mobility impairment, so I wouldn't necessarily have noticed.

Thanks, Harold. This was very helpful. I think I can do it. Carolyn

I did this trip last September. You won't have to do any long walksthe longest might be from the train in Flam to the boat, but it's not that far. Remember, you'll be with a bunch of other tourists all making the same connections. Have fun.
