So I have been searching flights on Orbitz, the one I want came up for a price of $1,383.09. I clicked on it just to see what the next step would be and got a different price of $1,118.67. I rechecked a few different times this weekend for the same flight as I thought it was just a glitch. But the price kept changing to the lower price. So I guess you need to click on the price and see what you get with Orbitz because it could be a much better deal.
Were you able to buy it at the lower price?
Orbitz is pulling info from a centralized reservation system - there may simply be a lag between what it's reporting and the "real time" price. Sometimes the opposite will happen...you'll pull up a low price only to discover it's not available anymore because it went up.
Yes I was able to purchase at the lower price no problem. Just thought it was weird and lesson learned.
Did you buy from Orbitz or from the airline directly?
@John-purchased from Orbitz. I usually never purchase from a 3rd pty but I could not get all all three legs or the price on the airline website. Once purchased I went to the airline website with my confirmation and my flights were all there and I was able to call and pick my seats. So far so good.
When the price of an airfare changes frequently as described by OP, I would book it (with an airline, or with Orbitz, etc. ). If the price should drop within 24 hours, I would cancel and rebook without any penalties.
Stay-I would do that if it was over $50.00 otherwise it seems like too much of a bother. Plus how often are you going to do that? Every time the price changes? I just book it and move on.
