I booked my flight to Europe using award miles but haven't found an award return flight yet. I'm returning from Paris on Sept 4 and am thinking that I'll have a hard time getting an award ticket on the Saturday of a holiday weekend. There's a one way ticket with Aer Lingus for $626 which I am considering. Any idea whether I'll find a lower one way ticket if I wait another month or two? Or does $626 sound pretty good for a one way ticket? I know no one can predict the future but just wanted your thoughts. I have set up a fare alert on Kayak. Thanks!
Paris to Indianapolis.
Hi Grier,
We used Delta FF miles to fly to Italy last Fall (mid-September.) We spent many hours trying to get a good schedule and entered various flight options to try to find the best use of our miles. In our experience, the schedules and required miles (60,000 vs. 90,000) changed moment to moment. If you have enough miles for a round-trip ticket I'd keep trying. We eventually got a good schedule using the minimum number of miles--it just took some time and patience.
Grier, do you have any flexibility in your return date or departure point? If so, you might check FF flights out of London and Brussels.
Also, if you haven't yet, get on the phone and talk to a person about the return flight.
Thanks for your responses. I have talked with people at the airline and haven't had any luck yet. I was told the more tickets they sell, the more award tickets are made available and to keep calling. My options are 1) to continue to call and hopefully get an award ticket (unfortunately, I don't have flexibility on dates), 2) buy a one way ticket and save the miles for next trip ($626 doesn't sound too bad), or 3) go through Brussels. There is an award ticket from Brussels but I'd have to be there the night before to make the flight.
