older drivers and car rentals in Europe

I am 76, in good health, and have driven a car rental in Italy and in Germany in the past. Wife and I are planning a trip next Summer...I will then be 77 ! Will I have trouble renting a vehicle in Italy. I have an excellent driving record by the way. Any helpful advice out there? Thanks. Richard

Lease a car instead of renting...fewer age restrictions and I think....I think that Peugot has lowered the time requirement as well. It used to be a minimum of 3 weeks. We just leased one in Nice and travelled through Italy. Loved it. Took the cheapest they had...Clio 86 hp diesel and there was ample room for luggage hidden in the hatchback and did 5000 km on 300 litres of diesel.

According to my Italian mother-in-law, in Italy 77 is not considered old at all. This isn't official, but she thinks you'll have "no problemo."

I know you will love my answer which is: Depends. I am 75 and a couple of years ago I tried to rent a car for Itay and was told I was too old. I tried another agency and had no trouble and I specifically asked about my age.
