Old Piedmont Airlines Employee Checking In

Just wanted to say "Hey" to anyone else who might have worked for my all-time favorite airline in the whole wide world!

I started out as a ramp-rat but then got moved to Ticket Agent.

Then when USAIR bought us, they found out I was half-German and asked me did I want to move to Frankfurt to work the counters?

My childhood sweetheart lived near Frankfurt, so dang right I said "yes" and sold everything I had to make the move and live there.

Wrong.

I got laid off and had to return to the States.

I just told you that story to let you know that us (former) airline people have lives too.

Sorry to hear about that - I guess it's an example of the uncertainty of the airline industry today, right?

I am sure you all have lives - probably alot more exciting than some of us. Hang in there!

Bill,

Being a part of the wonderful world of Aviation certainly has it's ups and downs. I know first hand.

I've always enjoyed my Career as a Flight Attendant. It's all I've ever wanted and more.

9/11 was personally devastating for myself and many others in the Industry. So many of us were out of work and had no choice but turn to our fall back Careers. Some of us never got the chance to fly again. I thought I'd never fly again. Those were the lowest and emptiest points of my life.
The thought of being chained to a desk for the rest of my working life was simply not an option! And joining the ranks of the 9 to 5 crowd was equally as unattractive.

There's something special about the Airline Industry.

If you love it, you never lose that love for it.
Sounds like you enjoyed your time with Piedmont/US AIR.

Do you think you will ever go back? Being German language qualified is a very marketable skill? Had you ever thought of flying?

Safe Skies,
F/A

I love to fly and I loved my time with Piedmont/USAIR and if I fly USAIR, I always identify myself as a former employee and ask for an exit row seat.

Also, if I see someone on the crew who may be old enough, I might ask if he/she remembers Piedmont and many times they do and we talk over old times and AOG's and stuff.

But I now work as a respiratory therapist and I love what I do and could never go back to the uncertainty of airline work.

Still it was an experience I would not have wanted to miss.

Thanks

B!~

So that means when you're not flying, you're in the back of an ambulance or on a chopper/airplane???

Impressive!

Thanks very much for sending the links along. I will give them a try!
