I need 5 train tickets (adult) on August 17 from Salzburg to Verona. I have been on the Austrian OBB train site and found 2nd class tickets starting at 39euro. The site looks confusing to order from, so I contacted our hotel in Salzburg and they responded that they have not used the on-line source, but suggested we get them at the station, but the tickets may cost more.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!
That €39 price is only with advance purchase online. The tickets will definitely cost more (€70,80/p) if you wait and buy them at the station. The only way you can get the discounts is with online purchase. The ordering from OEBB.at is not that difficult, but it seems to be in German. However, there are not that many words to translate. I would just use Google translate or Babelfish to translate individual words, not try to display a translated web page. The other thing you could try is the German Rail (Bahn) website. The purchase part on the Bahn website is in English. However, I don't see quite as low prices for Aug 16. To get advance purchase discounted tickets from the Bahn, you can't include the direct RJ from Innsbruck to Salzburg, because that train considered to be entirely "in Austria" (even though it goes from Kufstein to Salzburg non-stop through Germany). However, you can continue on the EC from Innsbruck to Rosenheim and take an RE from there to Salzburg, and it will still be on one ticket and discounted.
Hi Judy, While the OBB site is a bit more confusing than the Bahn site, I recently used it for multiple purchases and it worked fine. https://ticket.oebb.at/bin/jticket.pl?&DESIGNKOPF=1&LANG=EN Neil
Thanks so much for the suggestions.
We successfully made our train ticket reservations on OEBB for our trip from Salzburg to Verona.
