Anyone here park at O’Hare and take the shuttle buses to the terminal lately? We’ll be in the long-term lot and flying out of Terminal 1 in less than three weeks and wondered how the temporary shuttle system is working out. We’ll get there plenty early in any case, but wondering if it’ll take a little longer than usual to get inside.
Stoutfella- Not sure how the long term shuttle is working. How long will you be gone? We just flew out of O'Hare and were gone for ten days. We used an off site parking called Wally Park. They have a shuttle system that works really well (and it's a lot cheaper!) You need to make reservations online prior though.

Yes, private lots around the airport are cheaper and provide better service than the public lots. I use this one.

We’ll have 14 days of parking. I’ll check out some of the offsite lots.
We've used the cheapest parking at the airport and the shuttles worked just fine.
I traveled out of O'Hare for 30 years. It is all about day of the week and time of day. With the train/people mover under construction, the key is to give yourself plenty of extra time because there will be more people jockeying for bus shuttles.
Avoid international flights thru ORD like the plague until the reconstruction is done. They are restructuring the inter-airport transportation system that connects the international terminal to the domestic terminals. When I saw my itinerary (business class) had a 3 hour layover at ORD, I thought, 'that's Ok. Chance to eat free food in the BC lounge & have some free drinks. WRONG. In took the entire 3 hours to get from the arrival gate to the departure gate.
On my next trip to EU, I'm connecting thru DEN which is both cheaper & faster than ORD.
Of course, the OP is coming from downstate and not likely connecting any where.
Sam is correct. We're driving to O'Hare to catch a Saturday afternoon flight to London leaving from Terminal 1.
I use WallyPark too and it works great. Close to the airport and the shuttles run often. Much cheaper than the official lots.
The return (private) shuttles all pick up from the loop in front of the Hilton Hotel, or from T5. That is close to T3. So if you are arriving back at T1, it can be a bit of a pain to get to the shuttle, especially without the tram running.
With the tram shut down for construction, expect shuttle buses from the lots to be very busy and crowded, especially in peak times.
DO NOT use the O'Hare on-site parking. As said previously, the outer lot TRAM is off-line due to construction and they are using shuttle buses. Going off-site will cost you 1/3 as much, give you a better/faster shuttle and provide valet (often indoors) parking. You can usually get your car washed and the oil changed if you wish...
Not sure how Wally Park saves money. Their site quotes $15.95 per day vs. $10 per day for the O'Hare long-term lot.

The $15.95 rate for Wally Park is the non-reserved rate. The point is to reserve ahead for their discount rates. Or park in the Lot G (the cheapest). The total cost differences are relatively minor.
Actually, I put in my dates to reserve and it gave me the $15.95 rate. That's for valet parking and is the only option shown. Perhaps I've waited too long. We've used Lot G before with no problem. My original question was just wondering how the current shuttle system is working. We're flying Saturday, which is normally a less-busy airport day.
Well, the good news is the O'Hare parking shuttle system worked just fine. The bad news is that Lot G, which had shown it was open as late as this morning, was full at 11:30 am, so we had to go to Lot F, $17 instead of $10. Oof! Live and learn.
Now we’re waiting with crossed fingers that the April snowstorm lets us get off the ground.
