O'Hare Layover

We have a 6 hour layover at O'Hare in May. We're just fine with that, as we are connecting from a small regional airport and our other layover options would be too tight for our comfort. We've run through O'Hare more than once, and we are not interested in doing that again!

There is a restaurant in T5 that we would like to eat at during our layover. We should arrive and depart from T3. If I understand correctly, if we take the Airport Transit System (ATS) we have to exit security at T3, re-enter through security at T5, and the repeat that all again to return to T3. However, if we take the Terminal Transfer Bus (TTB) we will not have to exit the secure airside area and will not have to go through security entering T5 or entering back into T3.

Can someone please confirm this information? Thank you!

Thank you, Joe32f. I had visited that page. It appears at first to be more convenient to use the transit system--departures of the tram are more frequent from each terminal. But it looks like the bus is the way to go to avoid having to go through security. Just wanted to make sure we have to exit the secure airside area to use the tram.

The one time I took the bus to Terminal 5, there was someone at the bus gate very carefully checking to make sure only passengers with tickets for a Terminal 5 flight got on the bus. If that's still the case, then you would not be allowed on the bus to Terminal 5. I'm curious whether someone with more experience can chime in.

Thank you! That is very helpful to know. I did see that you need to have and show a boarding pass, but it did not specify that it had to be for T5. But now after hearing what you experienced, I'm thinking that may still be case--it probably needs to be for T5. I appreciate your reply.
