Hi- I have been pricing flights and it seems that non stop flights are not going down. I am going to paris end of next month and non stop is like 1200 right now and I can only afford 8ish. Aer lingus does a 10hr total flight time connecting in dublin with 1hr 40 to layover. I have heard good things about the airline but : 1. Do i have to go through the 'long' customs line as I would normally have to when i arrive in paris as my final 2. does the airline tag my bags so that they get moved for me onto my next flight?
3. Anyone have experience flying with this route? Its only 2 hr difference from a non stop and its markedly cheaper. I'm freaked out to wait too much longer.
Your primary customs check will be in Dublin between changing planes. Yes, the airline does change the baggage between flights, so that it follows the passenger. This works 99% of the time. If you want to ensure you are not the 1%, then use carry-on only. Aer Lingus is generally considered sort of a high-class budget airline, if you catch my drift. Meaning, it gets very good reviews, but consistantly costs less than major carriers. they can do this because of the efficiency resulting from reshuffling all passengers in Dublin. IcelandAir is another, smaller airline that operates in much the same way, resulting in lower costs. Don't fret. It is a very legit airline and the lower fare is legit, too. Enjoy...
That affirms it, perhaps I will try this and save 2-300 bucks.
Thanks!
You are NOT going to undergo any immigration control in Dublin. Only a quick transfer security check (x-ray of your hand bag and so). Ireland is not part of Schengen area and thus you are only transiting there. Your arrival in Schengen will be in Paris, where flights coming from "non-Schengen" destinations arrive at different gates with immigration control.s
