Well, guess it won't work for me...NYC is about 2,500 miles away.

Emirates does this from time to time and it's a GREAT way to get to Italy and Greece. They've offered fantastic deals in October as well.

Bruce, do you have Alaska miles? When we want to fly from the East Coast, we use our Alaska miles to take us to New York ( or when going to Patagonia we flew to FLL). To be safe, we fly a day or more ahead of the booked long-haul flight. Fortunately we have friends in Manhattan who will put us up, so we incur no additional costs for lodging.

@Lola: Yup, I have Alaska Airlines miles and in fact are using them to help us get to Europe this year. Bonus...one-way mileage tickets are available and separately, companion fares are another option to gain access to major airports.

Lola, we use Alaska companion fares to get to the East Coast, have a good might’s sleep and then take advantage of a low fare to Europe the next day. I am typing this at a hotel near EWR and will be flying to Rome tomorrow to explore parts of Italy and Sicily for a month.
