What is the best ... most scenic ... routing to book from Nuremberg to Dresden?
"most scenic ... routing to book from Nuremberg to Dresden?" Is that an oxymoron? I've traveled from Dresden to Munich via Regensburg. The scenery was OK, but not what I would call particularly "scenic". It's just typical Germany, rural, forests and farmland, occasional villages, but not especially scenic - not like the Alps.
The shortest (timewise) routes from Nürnberg to Dresden are regional trains (IRE or RE) via Chemnitz. If you want to use high speed trains (IC/ICE) you have to take a more roundabout route, maybe an hour longer, like through Leipzig or Fulda. You could also take the Bahn bus or regional trains from Nürnberg to Prague, then then an EC from Prague to Dresden. That's an interesting ride along the Vitava and Elbe, through the Sächische Schweiz, but a lot longer, timewise. The advantage of taking a route through Leipzig is that, since it includes a train of the Bahn (EC/IC/ICE) you can get an advance purchase "Savings Fare" ticket for as little as 29€/P. You could also book the Nürnberg-Prague-Dresden as two separate legs for as little as 19€ each, 38€/P total.
Hi, You could try Berlin to Dresden direct on the EC. I haven't tried going from Nürnberg to Dresden.
