Not sure how to travel?

I'm flying into Dublin, Ireland where I'll be meeting my fiancee to travel from Ireland to London, London to Netherlands, Netherlands to Paris where we'll be flying out.

First, our travel time is 10 days total. We're set on going to Paris and london and some time in Ireland, which she will be in Ireland for 4 weeks before I arrive. We would like to add another destination between London and Paris and we are not set on the Netherlands. Would Amsterdam be a suitable place. Also we are under the age of 26.

Second, I'm not sure how we should travel from each place. We've looked at the Euro Rail Global Pass but I don't think we're traveling enough to make that worth the money. Also should we take a fairy from Ireland to Hollyhead? Or the Eurostar?

I'm just really confused on what we should do on traveling and neither one of us has ever been out of the country. I'm just looking for some good advice on how to travel to each location and possibly places to stay on a tight budget. Thanks!

Forget the pass..waste of money.

Fly from Dublin to London (lots of discount airlines). The Eurostar doesn't go between Ireland and the UK. It goes between the UK and either France or Belgium.) Taking the ferry to Hollyhead and then the train to London will take all day and you don't have much time for your trip.)

You can either Fly from London to Amsterdam or take the train. (Eurostar part of the way.) With only 10 days, I'd find a cheap flight as the train will take much longer.)

From Netherlands to Paris, take the train.

Point to point tickets on the train, purchased in advance, will save you money.

I suggest you read the sections on this website regarding traveling by train in Europe. Go to the top of the page and click on the tab marked "Plan Your Trip."

Personally, I would drop the Netherlands and spend the ten days between Ireland, London and Paris.

I wouldn't take the ferry from Ireland to Holyhead, purely because it's quite slow and if your final destination is London it'll still take 4-5 hours to get from Wales to London. Just fly; Dublin to London takes less than an hour and even factoring getting to/from the airports it'll still take a lot less time. The only reason I'd get the ferry is if you wanted your "other destination" to be North Wales, anywhere else in the UK I'd just fly.

The Eurostar is an excellent way to get from central London to central Paris. If you want to got to NL first you could get the Eurostar to Brussels and pick up a Thalys to Holland but again it's quicker to fly.

I've never done it myself but the overnight train/ferry combo is apparently a good (and economical) way to get from London to the Netherlands - have a google for the "Dutch flyer".

With budget airlines, the longer you wait to book the higher the fare.

For your budget airline choices for Dublin-London, do a search at www.skyscanner.com.

London-Amsterdam: EasyJet is your best budget airline choice. Or if you book well in advance (up to 120 days allowed) on the NS Hispeed site, you can travel all the way by train for as little as 50 EUR. London-Brussels on the Eurostar and Brussels-Amsterdam on an InterCity train. For information on the Dutch Flyer train-ferry-train combo, go here. To book tickets, go here.

Take a Thalys high-speed train from Amsterdam to Paris. If you book well in advance (up to 90 days allowed) at www.thalys.com, you can get a Smoove fare as low as 35 EUR. These fares sell out fast so book ASAP.

With your limited time, I'm with Frank. Save Amsterdam for another trip. You'll have a better balance between travel time and sightseeing time. If you skip Amsterdam, take the Eurostar from London to Paris. Book ASAP (up to 120 days allowed) at www.eurostar.com to get a discount fare as low as 43 EUR.

And just to add on to Tim's recommendations...when you register on the Eurostar site, say you are in the UK. You'll get prices in pounds rather than dollars....but...the exchange rate your bank gives you is better than the one Eurostar gives if you register as an American.
