Norwegian flight Paris to Stockholm timing

Hello!
We will be making our first trip to Europe this spring and have not traveled internationally before. There are 4 of us and I want to take only carryon bags, but if we have to take one bag to have checked will we have enough time to get it from baggage claim and catch our next flight to Sweden? Will we have to go back through all of the security checks if we do it this way? We have three hours at Charles De Gaulle before our second flight on to Stockholm.
Thank you for any info.

You will have time only if the first flight arrives on time, the 3 hours before the 2nd flight.
Arriving in Paris you will go through immigration/passport control where they stamp your passport.
Then after that you walk to the baggage carousel to pick up the bag. Then you go to airline checkin counter to recheck bag. Then through security screening on the way to the boarding gate.

Are the flights on one ticket? Or purchased separately? If on one ticket, any checked bag would likely be checked thru to Stockholm; you would not see or do anything with it at CDG. Enjoy your trip!

Thank you!
Both flights are with Norwegian Air, but in order to get a good price (and before I realized the process) we were booked on two different flights. It’s my own fault. I won’t do that in the future and I just have to hope the arrival to CDG is on time.
I really appreciate your help!

Since they are both on Norwegian Air, you can ask at your departure airport to have the bag checked through to Stockholm. No guarantees, but nothing to lose by asking.

If we check a bag I will definitely ask this! I’m hoping we can do only carryons.
:) I’m so glad experienced travelers are available here for questions!

Be sure to check the carry-on baggage rules for your class of ticket to make sure you meet the size and weight limits.

That is however a pretty big if. Norwegian is not known for their punctuality, and delays of 2-3 hours or more on their long hauls flights are not uncommon. So it might be a good idea to start looking at a plan B just in case you miss your second flight.

Airlines have become pretty reluctant to check bags to a different destination, and I would not expect anything from a low cost airline. But you have nothing to lose by asking, and who knows, you might be lucky?

Yes. I made sure to look at the size and weight limit. We have time to make sure we meet the restrictions. I’m on a mission now. :)

If we have a Norwegian air flight delay that makes us miss our flight on to Sweden on the next flight with the same airline, I certainly hope they have a plan. A family of 4 would be at a loss to have funds for last minute flights, when we have no way to change the circumstances. It seems I’ll be praying a lot about this. The trip is in May. As long as we make ourselves as quick as possible with only carryons, then we will have to do what we have to do when the times comes.
Thank you!

If I were you, I would call Norwegian and ask them to make this one ticket instead of two. Be very polite and explain how you didn't understand the difference between one and two tickets. If they agree, then they will put you on the next flight to Stockholm for free. If they don't agree, I would have extra funds available to buy new tickets.

Make sure everyone uses the toilet on the flight because there likely won't be time for a bathroom stop. I would also speak with the flight attendant on board and ask them if they can get you off the plane faster.

I haven't flown Norwegian but my wife's nephew flow to Stockholm from New York several years ago. He was on a study program and had a bag to be checked. The rules may be different now but back then Norwegian charged more to check a bag at the airport if you did not pre-pay via the website. Long story short is Norwegian's website rejected their attempts to pay by credit card. The went to the airport intending to pay the premium check-in at the counter. His credit card wouldn't work at the counter but his sister did.

Caution here is don't depend on the check in agents to be flexible. Norwegian makes money by selling basic fair flight services then adding on extras. With your situation Norwegian would be able to charge you for one bat to CDG then again to recheck the bag to Stockholm. Try to no check any bags.

Thank you both!!
I will call and ask, as you suggest, and be prepared to dash. There are so many unknowns in this scenario. As I said, my commitment to packing light and wearing heavy items is very high! I will make sure we don’t check a bag. That is decided.
I can’t control if our flight arrives at CDG on time, but hopefully it will.
Our trip home is a direct flight and I am so thankful!
Thanks again!

If we have a Norwegian air flight delay that makes us miss our flight
on to Sweden on the next flight with the same airline, I certainly
hope they have a plan.

If you have two separate tickets, they don't need to have a plan. Their responsibility is to get you to Paris. If the flight is delayed you are entitled to some compensation. But regarding the flight from Paris to Stockholm, if you miss that it is not Norwegian's problem.

A family of 4 would be at a loss to have funds for last minute
flights, when we have no way to change the circumstances.

Yes, that is why it is in general better to buy a ticket to your destination instead of self connecting.

If I were you, I would call Norwegian and ask them to make this one
ticket instead of two. Be very polite and explain how you didn't
understand the difference between one and two tickets. If they agree,
then they will put you on the next flight to Stockholm for free.

Airlines have become pretty reluctant to do that, and I wouldn't expect a low cost airline to do it without an extra cost, but it is always worth asking.

If they don't agree, I would have extra funds available to buy new
tickets.

Another option is to buy refundable tickets for a later flight, they will probably be cheaper now than on the same day. And if you catch your Norwegian flight to Stockholm you can just cancel your later tickets. Air France and SAS have frequent flights from Charles de Gaulle to Stockholm.

Make sure everyone uses the toilet on the flight because there likely
won't be time for a bathroom stop. I would also speak with the flight
attendant on board and ask them if they can get you off the plane
faster.

Or pay a bit extra to select seats in the front of the cabin, that can save time on arrival.

I will look into the backup options. I didn’t really self connect, it was an offer from one of the sites Kayak finds and I entered flights from our origination point to Stockholm and this was what they offered... a layover in Paris. But when I paid for the tickets it said these were two separate flights. Of course, non-refundable. I’m new at this and we were thrilled with being able to afford for our family to travel together. It’s unfortunate that I’ve chosen poorly. It was so exciting at the time, I didn’t realize we have to go through security again when we are going on the same airline to our destination. I imagined getting off at one gate, and heading to the next gate for our second flight with time to grab a bite in the airport. Why do they make people go through all of that again if they come right off of an airplane into the airport? They have been checked already. I’m disappointed by the way it’s set up.

That is the disadvantage to booking on a 3rd party site.

They way you word it, i think you are on one "ticket" and your bag will be checked through. Yes, you will have two "flights" USA to CDG, and CDG to Stockholm, but you should only have one "ticket" or reservation with Norwegian. If this is the case, you wont have to exit and go through security, but only immigration for entering Europe.

Sorry to hear that, but it is a disadvantage of using 3rd party booking sites. Hopefully everything will work out fine, but it might be good to have a plan B just in case.

You will have to go through immigration (passport check) when you arrive in Paris. But I'm not sure if you have to go through security again, I'm not that familiar with Charles de Gaulle.

Thank you!
I had taken a photo of the screen when I booked the flight (through gotogate) and it stated we have a Connection Guarantee. Whew! It specifically covers missed flights due to delays or immigration delays. There are some situations not covered, but those would effect everyone at the airport (extreme weather, strikes, civil unrest etc...)
I feel a bit better now.
:) Still doing only carryons.

Thank you so much!!
I appreciate the reassurance! It’s nice to know we are all being made safe. I’ll try to stay optimistic in the process.
Thanks again everyone!
