Norway Fjord cruise ship reservation

Hi. We're travelling to Norway next month. We're gonna do the Norway in a Nutshell fjords tour, but on our own and not thru the FjordsTour company. I read in Rick's guidebook that its a good option if one already has Eurail tickets since the train ride is covered. I've already made reservations to the Oslo-Bergen train. The Flam train doesn't need reservations so we're good with that. The bus ride also does not need reservations from what I read. However, Rick recommends making reservations for the fjords cruise ship from Flam to Gudvangen. Can't find the name of the company that does the cruise. Anybody know their website?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the info Steve. I checked out the site. Not sure whether to select ferries, boats or express boats. What is the type of ship used in Norway in a nutshell. Just want to make sure we're on the right boat, lol.

Also, I don't see any online booking available. Have to call it in? Sorry for the newbie questions.

In June 2009 we bought the tickets for all parts of the Norway in a Nutshell from the Oslo train station about 2 days before we began the trip. I don't know if the same can be done in the month of August, however. From home we had called the Norway railway company to gather information; FjordsTours is just that, a tour company.

The ferries carry vehicles and travel slower than an express boat which carries passengers only.

Enjoy!

Is it too much to bring our carry on luggage during the Norway in a Nutshell tour? From Bergen, we'll be doing the tour, but will be proceeding to Oslo. Just wondering how we'll handle the bags while on the cruise. We'll be busy taking pictures and enjoying the scenery. Is there a place to leave the luggage in the ship?
How about the Flam train? And the Voss bus? Is there room for carry on size luggage for those legs? Appreciate any feedback on these. Thanks!

This June, we did the morning express boat from Bergen to Balestrand, spent the night in Balestrand, and did the next morning boat from Balestrand to Flam. From there, the Flam railway to Myrdal, then on to Oslo. arriving a little after 5.

When we arrived in Flam, there was a Costa cruise ship docked, and the Flam railway train we needed to get to Myrdal was full. Luckily, they save some room for those who had train connections/reservations later in the day, and we were able to get on. So, if you have any train reservations made, be sure to pick up the reservation cards early, just in case you find the Flam railway train or Voss bus you need is full.

The Fjord 1 express boat from Bergen had an area where luggage was stored. On the Flam railway, we just put our luggage on the rack over the seats (I assume you are traveling light- the Rick way). I don't know about the Voss bus, but I'd guess there is luggage storage under the bus.

Have fun! The fjords were the best part of our trip. We were glad that we took an extra day and spent the night in Balestrand. Arriving from Bergen around noon and then having an afternoon and evening to relax and enjoy the beautiful little town with its magnificent views was definitely worth it.

We did the entire "nutshell" with luggage 'cause we stayed a couple nights in Balestrand. Yes, there are either luggage racks for your luggage or you can keep it with on any of the boats or buses or trains.
