nonstop flight question

Looking for nonstop SFO-CDG in late June to mid July. Is it better to just pay more now than gamble on a price drop later? Will the nonstops be all taken if I wait?
Thanks.

No one knows that answer. That is peak travel time so I would expect very little discounting. Nonstops are always preferred and it is the strange connecting flights with long lay overs that are discount. Remember the longer you wait the few seat choices you will have. And if someones says, "Wait, prices will drop." They do not have a dog in the fight.

Non-stop flights from the west coast are limited and governed by the rule of supply and demand. Supply is low, demand is high. So there is no incentive to drop prices. As far as I can yell, the only non- stop from SFO to CDG is the Air France ( Delta codeshare) flight. There are two a day, still probably not enough to meet demand. The price I see, $1669, is higher than it was a few days ago when I checked. Whether that indicates a trend I cannot say. It is about $200 higher than the one-stop flight. If I were booking, I would watch over the next week or two, but not wait much longer than that. My experience with the non- stop flights from here, Seattle, is that prices do not go down, they just keep going up. But no one knows for sure what will happen in this case.

Who flies non-stop from SFO to FCO? I'm not aware of any airline that does. All EU airllines, with the exception of Alitalia, will fly you to their home country first and then to Rome. And, Alitalia doesn't fly out of SFO. They will fly you on Delta or Air France both of which will fly you to other airports first before you pick up the Alitalia flight to Rome. I'm not aware of any non-stops on United from SFO to Rome either. With United, you will one-stop in Chicago or Dulles first. US Airways will 1-stop you in Philadelphia. Delta will 1-stop you in New York (JFK) For us out of Sacramento, United flew us to LAX and put us on Lufthansa to get to Italy (great flights). We went through Frankfurt.

If I had to bet, I'd bet you won't see a significant price drop. If you wait, you may see all the seats on the direct flight sold out and be stuck on a connecting flight for the same price (or higher). My bet, however, is really no better than anyone elses.

it's a gamble, prices could go up or down, nobody knows. With fuel prices so high it's more likely they won't be going down, especially for summer travel. how popular is Paris in summer, pretty popular
plus with the Olympics coming to London this summer people are looking for other destinations
