I just had a travel consultant tell me that there's no train station in Bastogne. Is this true? I was planning to visit this Monday ( Oct. 22) by train, leave luggage in a locker at the train station, rent a bike and head to the monument/museum a couple of miles away. Obviously that's not possible of there's no station with no lockers--not to mention bike rental. Anyone have any info. on this?
The URL for the Belgian rail system is http://www.b-rail.be/main/E. After some poking around, it did not seem as though there is a train station in Bastogne. FYI, specifying "Brussels" as the "From" city, seemed to cause the web site to use the airport as the starting point. Similarly, specifying "Bastogne" as the "To" city caused the web site to use some local Brussels location as the destination. I had better luck when I specified Bruxelles as the departure point and " Bastogne Sud" as the arrival point. Or just Google "Bastogne Tourism". Several sites popped up, all listing the local tourist office. You can email the tourist office.
According to the timetables at www.bahn.de, there are two stations, Bastogne-Nord and Bastogne-Sud. I don't know if either station has lockers.
I did some more investigating. According to the Belgian Rail site, there are no lockers at either Bastogne station. The stations are unattended so there are few services of any kind.
Thanks to all. Bastogne will have to wait 'till another trip--with a car.
