night trains and passport

Is it true that when you are on the night train, travelling through different countries, train conductor will keep your passport with him during the journy(night)? I am not sure if it's wise to give your passport to someone.

Yes, the conductor will hold on to your passport. It's not something to be concerned about. Do you really want an immigration official waking you up at 2 am, and seeing your in your pajamas:)
