Night train from Venice to Ljubljana

Does anyone have any idea of what's going on with Italia Rail regarding this route? I need reservations for early May and the website clearly states a night train between these 2 cities, but when I enter dates I am told there is no train station by that name. I know this night train has been available in the past. I heard that "new software" is involved and may have problems.

I can see two night trains from Venice to Ljubljana on www.bahn.de. The first departs Venice S.L. at 21.20 and arrives at 1:41am. The trip takes 4:21hrs with no train changes. The second train departs at 00.36 and arrives in Ljubljana at 7:44. One change in the middle of the night at Villach. The trips takes 7:08hrs. I see the first train on the Italian's www.trenitalia.com website as well. It's showing a fare of 25E.

Both of those options involve getting on or off a train in the middle of the night! Do you relly want to arrive in Ljubljana at 2 in the morning? Why not just take the daytime route, via Villach, that takes about 6 hours?

Janis, I've not done the train but have driven northern Italy to Ljub and the scenery is incredible. A day train for 6 hours (or less) would be worthwhile IMO, and make sure you've got lots of camera batteries for the many pics you'll take enroute.

Thanks for your input. We will be traveling on May 8th, and I just don't find that night train route shown anywhere past the end of April. I'm hoping it just hasn't been made available yet & not cancelled. We came to this decision as our trip sort of morphed into it in this manner by way of being the least troublesome logistically and taking less time than any other venue. That night train has no changes involved and takes the least amount of time and we have someone to pick us up at the train station. That night route takes a little less than 4 1/2 hrs with no changes, and it will give us pretty much a full day in Venice that day. It's too expensive to rent the car in Italy so we ruled that out.
I'll just keep watching to see if anything changes.
