Night train from Paris to Rome

My husband and I are flying to Paris on April 17. On April 21 we want to take the night train from Paris to Rome. The Artesia website states I can't purchase tickets online so I have a few questions.
How can I reserve a first class ticket to Rome? When should I do this? How do I actually purchase the ticket? I have read that RailEurope has a mark-up but don't know how much or if I should use them since we really want to travel on this date and don't want to rearrange our schedule. Does the night train go through Switzerland? If we decide to get a Eurail Pass I'll need to include that country for this train trip, right?

Thanks, Carole

If you book your tickets NOW at www.tgv-europe.com, you can get a Depart Plus fare of 280 EUR for two people in a double sleeper. (The standard fare is 350 EUR.)

tgv-europe.com is a multi-language site operated by SNCF, French National Rail. To keep the site in English and to avoid being bumped to the Rail Europe site which doesn't offer discount fares, choose Great Britain as your country of residence. You will be given three choices for ticket retrieval. Ticket machines in French stations require credit cards with an embedded chip so don't choose that one. Since you don't actually live in Great Britain, don't choose having the ticket mailed to you. Choose "Retrieval in a French station."

Yes, you will go through Switzerland. However, for direct trains between Paris and Italy passholders don't need to include Switzerland on their passes.

You can fly Easyjet (www.easyjet.com)from Orly to Rome for about 60 Euros each plus baggage charges. I always check flights against trains for the best deal.

Thank you so much for all the helpful information. Sometimes I think I'm drowning in details and this helped clear up some things.
