Hello,
This is my very first post, so I am still familiarizing myself with these message boards--please forgive me if this question has been asked before.
I would like to take a night train from Ljubljana (leaving at 2am) and arriving in Budapest at 11am. This is for August 11th.
It is a EuroNight, and the German rail site gives the following informaton:
Please reserve, Global price, Non-smoker train, Part of journey with sleeping-car, Part of journey with couchette coach.
I thought I read somewhere that couchettes (those are the bunk beds in compartments, correct? Please be patient--I've never taken a night train before) cannot be reserved on some routes after a specific time of night. Does this mean that because I am not boarding until 2am, I am not allowed to reserve an actual bunk bed on this route? Am I doomed to sleep in a reclining seat (which I know is NOT recommended)? What exactly is meant by the part couchette/part sleeper car mentioned in the route description? If anyone has taken this route before or is knowledgable in other ways, I would very much appreciate the help! Thanks in advance.
I just checked the German Rail site. This train originates in Venice. If I enter Venice as the starting point, the site says that there are both sleepers and couchettes all the way to Budapest. If I enter a stop quite a bit farther down the line beyond Ljubljana, no mention is made of either sleepers or couchettes. My best guess--and it is only a guess--is that while there are both sleepers and couchettes on this train, after a certain time a person cannot book a sleeper and after a somewhat later time a person cannot book a couchette. It appears that you will be able to book a couchette for Ljubljana-Budapest.
hmmm. I really appreciate your reply! now I understand that this train originates in venice. I think things are clarified now--thanks!
