Night train from Interlaken to Rome

My husband and I would like to take an over-night train from Interlaken to Rome in May. Does anyone know the easiest route to do this? This is my first time to Europe and I am very unfamiliar with the transportaion.

Thank you in advance for your help!!

You're welcome, Julia!

According to the DB timetables, there is no direct night train from Zuerich to Rome.

However, I just discovered another night train option that would let you arrive in Rome a little later in the morning than the first one I gave you, if you're willing to have a longer connection time in Milan. Instead of taking the 22:05 night train, wait and take E 1911, departing Milano Centrale at 23:20 and arriving at Roma Tiburtina at 07:30.

Julia,

There is no direct night train from Interlaken to Rome. Here's the best route:

Leave Interlaken Ost at 18:31, connect in Spiez, and arrive at Milano Centrale at 21:35. Take the E 833 night train from Milano Centrale to Roma Tiburtina, departing at 22:05 and arriving at 04:52.

See the timetables on the German rail site, www.bahn.de. Click on the drop-down flag menu for English. After you get summary timetables showing several departure times and routes, click on the arrow to the left of each departure time to see the connecting points.

Tim,

Thank you for your prompt and very helpful response! I really appreciate it!
One more thing- someone mentioned that there might be a direct over-night train from Zurich to Rome. If that is the case, do you think it's worth traveling to Zurich from Interlaken to catch that train? Or should we just stick with departing from Interlaken OST?

Thanks again! :)
