Hello. This is my first Europe trip and I'm interested in making the most of my 15 day Flexi Eurail pass. I will be in Cochem (Rhine area in Germany) on July 10th and would like to go from there to Interlaken Switz. I thought it might be wise to try and take a night train. Rick says: One must board after 7pm and the train ride will only use One flexipass travel day. But, one can not change trains before 4 am. So.. I'm trying to strategize the best train route to take advantage of this.. Any recommendations would be very much appreciated. Thank you. Sincerely,
David
My recommendation is NOT to take a night trains. There are plenty of daytime combinations you can make with the ICE trains going from Frankfurt to Basel + regional trains on both ends.
There is a night train that stops in Koblenz at 41 min past midnight on the way to Zürich. It gets into Basel at 6:54, from which you take an IC to Interlaken. That only gives you 6 hours on the night train. That's hardly worth it. Plus, you would have to pay extra or use another day of the rail pass for Cochem to Koblenz. I would concur with Andre, take a day train.
