Nice to Barcelona: fly or train?

I am spending time in Nice before a RS tour begins in Barcelona. I wonder if the train will give me some sea views? It is an almost 8 hour ride. I have never used an air company like Veuling, which does have flights. The flight would save time. I am concerned about baggage fees; I will have a 20 inch rollaboard and a totebag.

Any advice? Thanks.

I think it's a personal preference. The prices to fly, ticket seat reservation and checked luggage are

comparable to the train. It's also cheaper to book the luggage online. I check luggage and put my purse in

my day bag. Look @ both Vueling and Easyjet for flights.

We used Vueling for the first time last summer, buying the middle fare which includes seat selection and a checked bag. We had no complaints. Their bargain Nice-Barcelona fares start at 40 euro. The middle fare is 70-80 euro, comparable to the train. You are allowed a personal item and a carry on with Vueling, unlike the other low-cost carriers. With a direct flight, you have little risk of losing the bag, particularly if you can gate check it. The flight is 70 minutes.

Yes, you'll have some views of the Mediterranean Sea on the train. It's a nice ride--long. You'll also have one or two changes of trains.

It's about 425 miles from Nice to Barcelona. A flight on Vueling would be preferable, and it's inexpensive. You'd have to check their rules for what carryon's are allowed.

Large portions of this 8+ hour train ride are not along the coast, and a minimum of 2 train connections is required. I think you'll prefer flying. If you're concerned about your bag being within any weight requirement that the airline might have for carry-on items, then you might pre-pay the checked luggage fee, which is usually cheaper than paying in the airport.

Are you going to Europe to see only Nice and Barcelona, or do you want to experience the land between. Everything looks the same from 40,000 ft. If you go by train, you can really see what that part of Europe is about.
