I travel to Canada frequently for work, so I am going to apply for Nexus, the U.S.-Canada expideted entry program. Does anyone have this? I see that it comes with Global Entry - does this mean that on my return to the U.S. from Europe, I will be able to use priority lines? Even if the trip doesn't touch Canada (ie Madrid to Chicago). Again, I'm getting this for work trips but if it will help with personal trips to Europe too, all the better!
I have a Nexus pass, mainly because I live almost directly on the border and I drive to Toronto about twice a week. How useful it would be to you probably depends on the circumstances of your border crossing. The advantage for me is that the screening questions are much more succinct. It takes about 30 seconds once I pull up to the booth. However, I'm not saving that much time, because the traffic heading into Canada at the border crossing I use usually isn't very heavy, and the US side only operates their Nexus booth for a few hours in the morning. The rest of the time, I have to get in line with everyone else. But traffic patterns are obviously not the same at every crossing.
I have only used Nexus once to fly in and out of North America. At the Toronto airport, there was no line at all in the Nexus queue, so I basically had no wait. Almost none of the usual airport security hassles.
If you travel to Canada frequently, I really see no disadvantage to getting Nexus. Go for it.
Mira, I did not know Nexus included Global Entry. I am not the expert, but I wonder if that is new-ish. I thought I had looked at the plan last year as there are Nexus application processing facilities sort of near me where as the GOES ones are 6-8 hours away and decided it would not help. I do see on the Nexus site now that it includes GOES. Hmmm.
Thanks for posting your question and making me take a second look!
editing to add: Double hmmm. The enrollment center that was listed last year nearer to me is no longer listed. I had thought that one was weird because it was not a border or other Port of Entry.
