Newbie - Help with flight Baltimore-Rome, Part II - layover at Heathrow

Thanks for all the help with my prior question. This is a great forum!

What is a safe amount of time to allow between connecting flights at Heathrow airport in London? (in May\June if that matters)

I have found a good round trip price on British Airways for Baltimore-London\Heathrow-Rome. There is only one flight out of and back into Baltimore but on the Heathrow-Rome leg I have three choices and on the returning Rome-Heathrow leg I have two choices. The times between flights range from 2 hours and 45 minutes to 9 hours. I don't want to stress out about missing my connecting flights, but I don't want to sit more than is reasonable either.

Also, the online service through which I will purchase the tickets says I must enter our names exactly as they are on our passports. In our passports the first name line includes both our first name and our middle name. I assume this means that I should also include our first name and middle name as first name when I buy the tickets. Is this correct?

Thanks!

George

I think 2 hrs 45 is about the right amount of time to allow for a transfer.

There is no need to include your middle name when buying tickets. You just need to make sure your last name and first name are spelled exactly - no typos.

George, 2 hours and 45 minutes could be cutting it too close, especially if there are delays on your first flight. If I were you, I would allow a minimum of 3 hours, and perhaps 4 depending on possible weather - if you fly in summer from the DC area, you need to be prepared for summer thunderstorms that can mess things up for several hours. May/June should be ahead of the major thunderstorm season.

At least you will be flying on a single ticket - a few years ago we saved some money by booking separate tickets for the US-London and London-Vienna legs. Our return flight from Vienna to London was delayed by fog, and I got pretty tense wondering if we would miss our return to the US [which did not happen, fortunately].

Have a great trip!
