If you are scheduled to fly in or out of Newark or contemplating a booking in the short term, you might want to be aware of their operational issues. As of this writing, they have runway construction and traffic control staffing shortages resulting in meaningful flight delays and cancellations. We flew in and out of Newark March/April. We weren't aware of any issues until our outbound pilot came on and indicated they were down to one runway due to construction. Creeping taxi, long queue and late departure. . Inbounds and outbound were alternating on that runway. The construction is reported to be at least thru June. If I'm reading correctly, they have shifted some regional air traffic control to Philadelphia.
Thanks for the heads up. We’re scheduled to fly out of Newark in less than 2 weeks. Not the news I wanted to hear but better to be aware in advance!
Thank you for pointing this out. I'm flying into EWR tomorrow, so at least I don't have to wonder.
Thanks for the gift article link, toby.
Update: our departure in MUC was delayed by 45 min until we got a slot for landing in EWR. Upon landing, a never seen line of planes waiting to take off. 90 minutes waiting time at immigration. Succinct statement from the immigration staff to desperate transit passengers: Everything is delayed here at the moment.
