Ok, I just received my new Passport and Passport card with chip enclosed. Still a little confused about the advantage of use of this card. Another thought occurred to me; so.....I have a P.Card but my traveling companion doesn't; will this detain that person, therefore negating any advantage I would have had?
Isn't the card just for reentry from North America? Anyway, it doesn't matter, since global entry is the only thing with a separate line - - it's just how it's read when you hit the desk.
My wife has a new embedded chip passport, and I don't need to renew mine until next year. We have not had any delays. People with the chip passport don't get any special service.
Where are you going? To Europe? The passport card cannot be used for international travel by AIR. The Passport Card can only be used to enter the United States from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Bermuda at LAND border crossings or SEA ports-of-entry.
As others have indicated, as of right now, there is no advantage to having a passport with a chip nor disadvantage to your travelling companion not having one. The card, for European Travel gives you no benefit, except maybe as an alternate form of ID.
Thank you all!
