Just read that Global Entry is replacing its mobile app starting September 15 (tomorrow).

I used the current (soon to be old) version on Sunday when entering the US. There is a warning saying around Sep 15 I will be notified to download the new app.
I have never used the app. What advantage does it offer? Right now I walk down the aisle, am greeted by name by the agent, asked if I have anything to declare and am sent on my way. How could the app improve that?
Not all airports are the same. Seattle has the walk-thru. Most other airports don't.
The app allows GE members to bypass the facial recognition machines at some airports and go directly to the officer.
There won't be a new Global Entry app. There will be a new Trusted Traveler app that will include all the TT programs including GE.
Carol - when connecting at big hubs like ATL and JFK, the app does come handy to bypass the line for machines which can be long.
The new app will also be used to manage and renew GE card.
