KLM has just told me , via my online checking I've been doing every week since I booked....no email notification...that my return flight has been changed, giving me only 25 mins , instead of two+ hours, in Amsterdam to get to my flight home.
Of course, I'm now on hold to customer "service"....
That's pretty funny because I just got an email from KLM this morning that said among other things:
"We have extended transfer times between flights, giving you more time to make your connecting flight at Schiphol Airport and reducing stress for you and our airport staff serving you"
Apparently no one told the computer!
Hope there are good changes for you!
Well, it took a while to get a live person at KLM,, but I finally got a lovely lady......Rose.......in Chile!!!
That’s where the call Centre is for KLM Canada.
I explained that there was no way I could do a 25 minute connection even in “normal” times.
She offered me a 6am flight instead.
I said no, keep trying.
Then, as I knew that even if I kept the original flights, and missed the second, then getting a hotel and expenses from KLM till I could go the next day....there may be no seats by that time and I could be stuck in Amsterdam 2,3,4 days, and get stuck in the last seat (middle of course) on whatever plane.
Better to sort it all out now.
So I got her to book me on the identical flights the next day, back to my original connection time and I will pay for one more night in Italy myself.
That way, I’m at least assured of flights, good connection time, and a place to sleep.
Also, no leaving AMS and having to come back in from outside, perhaps being in the mega long lines that are going on today as per the thread in the Netherlands forum.
Then she said I would have to pay to book a specific seat, when I had already paid for them!
A brief discussion, she went and asked her supervisor, and I was able to choose my seats.
I have to be on an aisle because of my bad knees.
I was polite, but persistent.
She was great.
Nightmare!!
This is now...I still have a few weeks to go for further surprises........🙄
Glad you found a workable solution! Polite, persistent, and knowledgeable - wise words for air travel this summer…..
Thanks.
Rose at KLM was surprised that I knew about SeatGuru and had it open on another screen.
So I got her to book me on the identical flights the next day, back to my original connection time
That I find strange (scary?)
So your original schedule had you leaving on "Monday' and had a 2 hr layover in AMS. It got changed to 25 minute layover prompting you to make a change.
So now you fly the identical flights the next day ? So now on 'Tuesday' you have your original "Monday" flights/schedule?
I find it odd that the schedule would have that sort of variance from one day to the next.
( Or am I misreading it?)
Hope it works out.
@joe32F. — same thing happened to me except my flight left before I got there. I’m flying through Munich to Berlin. They changed my flight to leave before my flight from Denver arrived. This was on united. My only options were to spend the night in Munich and take the next flight out in the morning or travel the day before or day after for the same flights.
Excellent outcome and yes I agree with TexasTravelMom (as usual!).
Joe:
I guess the schedules are the same every day.
I’m not holding my breath that it will all be fine now.........just waiting for further surprises......
What was scary was that they didn’t send me an email notification until about 5 hours after I discovered the change on My Trips on the KLM website......
