Need hep Complicated train info!!

My family 2 adults one teen, one 12yr old are flying into Heathrow June 3 staying3 nites then taking the train to paris, 3 nites in paris then taking the overnite train to Florence. I am having such a HARD TIME with all the OPTIONS.
We are looking for the best price, details on WHEN we can book the tickets, and if flying would be cheaper! I am not sure if there is a pass that will cover our transport in the cities as well as around and thru. For example if we buy a tube pass could adding money on that kind of pass get us to London? Im not sure what is better point to point or pass. To sum up who do we book with, and when. I have been looking at tav-europe, eurostar, eukaide, a day tour that goes to Paris, and thello, which gets the worst reviews of all. Thanks for the help. I could NEVER be a travel agent! I am so thankful the reservations for the accommodations were not this complicated!

If you are traveling next June, you are attempting to book your train tickets too early. It's usually 90-120 days out depending on the train system. For the Eurostar, it's 120 days. I can't see beyond Jan 12, 2013 at this time. Right now, I can see non-refundable and non-exchangable fares of 154pounds ($250) for your group of 4. That's $62.50 each. For your overnight train from Paris to Florence, it's the Thello train. You need to book 90 days out. Right now, it doesn't go to Florence but that service begins on December 9. You are way too early. Alternatively, you can fly from Paris-Orly to Florence on EasyJet for as low as 60Euro. Again, you have to book early to get these lower fares. Also, read the travel conditions carefully - especially the size, weight and limits for luggage and carry-on. These budget airlines make lots of their money by these extra fees.

Ann, I was a bit hasty in recommending EasyJet from Paris to Florence. The websites that I use are a bit out of date. Easyjet doesn't seem to fly there anymore. From Paris-Orly, www.easyjet.com does fly to Pisa (I did check on the Easyjet website this time). It looks like I can book out as far as mid-June 2013. The earlier you book the better the fare. It's a 1hr40min flight. A nice feature of the Pisa airport is that they have a train station right in the airport. It's a 1hr trip to Florence. The fare is 7.60E. You buy your tickets, validate them one at a time as you board each train. You will change trains once at Pisa Centrale. Since you will be on Regionale trains all the way, you can hop off at Pisa Centrale, store your luggage at the staffed left luggage facility, and go see the leaning tower. Then, you can get on the next Regionale train for Florence as long as you do it within 6hrs of when you validated your ticket. Truthfully, going to Pisa adds to your overall travel time and cost to get to Florence. You'll have to compare these costs to the cost of the overnight Thello train.

The textbook source for all train travel is the site www.seat61.com It started as a personal blog and has become one of the most respected travel sites on the Internet. Yes, its information can be complicated. The differences and connections between the various rail systems do make life complicated and seat61 attempts to cover everything. The most vexing wrinkles are stirred up by the search for money-saving passes. Avoid that labyrinth by starting with simple city-to-city price searches. Only then will you be able to compare possible money-saving combo offers, and you will have saved yourself a good deal of stress. Easiest of all, of course, is to pay a good travel agent to do the work for you. But that's not how anyone on this forum wants to proceed, and you have already spent some time doing it on your own. Many here also recommend Rick Steves' writing about European trains.
With respect, your question contains a couple of spelling errors which will not help any search on the Internet. I'm sure they're just typing slips, but the web is unforgiving in its demand for accuracy.

Thanks for all the help! Typing while walking with an iphone does lead to some errors! I turned auto correct off due to whole word errors. Fortunately, most of my internet bookings and searches are done at home on my desktop.
