Need Help With Train Tickets In France

I need some guidance for the best and most economical way to buy train tickets. I need 3 tickets for travel on October 8th (8/10/11) from Perpignan to Paris. On the DB Bahn website I see trains that would work for us that depart Perpignan at 8:04 and 10:26. When I look on the voyages-sncf site the only option they give departs at 17:38. What's up with that?? Help please!!!

Try www.tgv-europe.com. Select Great Britain as your country of residence. (If you select USA, you'll be kicked to the Rail Europe website.) You'll see a number of available trains that day.

I just checked voyages-sncf.com and found many choices for 8 October. Several of them are direct trains for which Prem's fares of €22.00 are still available.

Success!! I followed your instructions Tim, and this time it gave me more options. Unfortunately, my friends wanted 1st class seats, so they are 40€ each. I tried to tell them we would get there at the same time in 2nd class, but they wouldn't listen. I've never done 1st class before, so I will be curious to see what twice the money gets us. :-( I now have the tickets printed out and we are good to go. Thanks again!!

Hooray! As you know from experience, seating in 2nd class is 2+2 (two seats on each side of the center aisle). All you get in 1st class is 2+1 seating and slightly wider seats. I'm sorry that your friends won't consider traveling 2nd class. Since there is plenty of leg room in 2nd class on trains (unlike coach on planes), 1st class is not worth the extra expense, IMO.

I couldn't agree more Tim. They were complaining about how they had to step over people on a train in Italy. I told them I never had that experience in Italy, but they insisted that they wanted to go 1st class on our long train ride. Two against one, so I lose. Hopefully I can convince them that 2nd class will be okay on our train from Barcelona - Perpignan. We will get those tickets in Barcelona. I guess it's the price I pay for traveling with friends instead of my husband. He's more than happy for me to make all of our plans!! :-)
