Need help - train tickets Paris to Bayeux in September

Trying to purchase train tickets from Paris to Bayeux for Saturday, September 24th in the afternoon on Captain Train. The schedule that comes up only shows one train for that day and it's a 5 1/2 hour journey.

When I check Sunday, September 25th - it shows 3 trains; Monday, September 26th - several trains.

Is there something going on Saturday the 24th that there are no other trains? What the heck?

Thanks for your help.

I am looking at the TGV website, and indeed there appears to be some construction/repair work going on Saturday and Sunday. The only train from Gare St Lazair is at 5:55 am and goes by way of Rouen and takes over 6 hours for what is normally a 2 hour direct train. All other trains that day leave from Gare Montparnasse and take equally long with multiple train changes. Starting 4 pm Sunday, the train schedule is back to normal.

Weekends are time to do required track maintenance, and it looks like bad luck (for you) that they picked that weekend. At least you have a heads up and can alter your plans.

Thanks Sam. I was afraid it was something like that. How do we go about getting a bus ticket?

FlixBus goes to Caen from Porte de Maillot bus station, then a train to Bayeux, bypassing the track work. Still takes longer than the regular trains when the line is open, but it is what it is.

We arrive from Amsterdam at 11:35 at Paris Nord, so I'll need a bus that leaves about 1-1/2 hours after that. I see something called Ouibus that has a bus leaving at 3:30. Do I buy the tickets from their website or is there a better option?

Ouibus is a division of SNCF. Take what is convenient for you.

Are you going to be renting a car for Bayeux?

Is your train from Amsterdam a Thalys, does it stop in Amiens or Lille? From either you could rent a car and forget the train while it is disrupted.... I'm not sure that I'd want to rent a car at Gare du Nord for driving out of Paris, although it is a Saturday, so maybe....

No- we're not renting a car. Our tickets are from Amsterdam to Paris Nord.

Looks like we'll be taking a bus. Not the worst thing. It is what it is.
